Iraqi PM visits Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad

TEHRAN- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani visited Mashhad on Wednesday to pay a tribute to the dazzling shrine of Imam Reza (AS).

Upon his arrival, he was officially welcomed by the local officials, including the governor of Razavi Khorasan Province. 

The new Iraqi prime minister started a two-day tour of Iran on Tuesday. Al-Sudani met Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and President Ebrahim Raisi on Tuesday. 

He also held separate meetings with Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber as well as Parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to discuss ways to boost ties. 

The Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian also hosted the new Iraqi leader to mull over several avenues to improve relations between the two neighbors.

Al-Sudani, 52, previously served as Iraq's human rights minister and minister of labor and social affairs.
